The 24-Hour Play Festival - September 7th at 6:00 pm
The 24-Hour Play concept is simple: a playwright pens a 10-minute play, and a director and a team of three actors rehearse the play. The whole team must be ready to perform the play within 24 hours after receiving the rules of the competition. These plays are performed in front of a live and rather rambunctious audience. Three cash prizes will be given. One of these prizes will be determined by the huddled masses (our audience) who will vote for their favorite…we need to appease the rabble somehow.
24-Hour Play events occur all over America, and each event has its own set of rules. In this variation, we have decided to let the artists be greatly in control of their own product so that they can present the best show possible. Rarely is there an opportunity to stretch the limits of an artist like a 24-Hour Play competition. This unique event is the climax of the two-weekend Fayetteville Arts Festival. It is held at the Walton Art Center’s Nadine Baum Studio.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY FEES
The 24-Hour Play Festival application process is completely open and slots are available on a “first come, first serve” basis. Each team is responsible for its own membership, and cannot include any members associated with either Fayetteville Downtown Partners or the Festival artistic planning team. Team members can be either amateurs or experienced actors. Individuals cannot participate as members of more than one team.
- Each team must consist of five members.
- One member of each team must primarily serve as the director, and one member of each team must primarily serve as the playwright.
- Your team can choose any method of creating and rehearsing its script. Playwrights can work independently, or groups can collaborate.
- Only very limited technical support will be provided by the festival, therefore the judging will be based on the merits of playwriting, acting and directing.
- Teams should not plan to bring in any additional technical support.
- Awards will be given directly after the performances.
- Please send only one application per team.
- The application fee is $50.00 per team ($10 per participant).
- All fees are non-refundable
- Early submissions are strongly encouraged due to limited availability of slots.

If you are interested in being a participant in the 24 Hour Play Festival, but do not have a team to work with, please contact us at ceramiccow@yahoo.com or 479-571-4879, and we will help you to form a team or try to find a team for you to join.
NOTE: Due to limited availability of slots only the first 10 entries will be accepted. An “Waiting List” will be created in the event that more slots become available.
JURY PROCESS
A panel of judges will score each team on a scale of 1-5 based on originality, playwriting and performance. There will be 3 cash prizes presented directly after the performances where the winners will immediately receive their checks. The panel will select a 1st place ($1,000 prize) and a 2nd place ($300 prize) winning team. There will also be a “Audience Choice” award ($200) selected by an audience vote.
Cancellations
Teams who need to cancel must inform Fayetteville Downtown Partners in writing by August 31st. If no attempt to contact Fayetteville Downtown Partners in regards to cancellation and we are unable to fill your allotted time slot, all team members will be suspended from participation in the Festival for no less than two years. All fees are non-refundable.
